Session 1: Changing Culture, Changing Church
Session write up:
Culture is rapidly changing, evolving and adapting . We have seen significant shifts in the way people live and in their beliefs about the world. We are moving into a post-Christian society where Christianity no longer plays the central role it once used to and church is seen as increasingly irrelevant to the needs, issues and concerns of our time. Recent research suggest 60% of the UK population is beyond the reach of the churches. In this session we will be exploring the significant changes in our culture and ask what implications this has for us as Church.

It looks like you’re having a great time!
No, it’s my cheeky putter!
Should be all up and running now.
and work it does, thank you v much!
This was a fascinating overview showing how culture has changed over the centuries. i wonder, if the present level of information available to us continues to increase at the rate Kerry suggests in his quote, what proportion of the population will just bury their heads and switch off? Presumably we need to be able to communicate both with those who don’t want to know, those who think they know, and also the confused. it should surely be easier now to get into dialogue with Joe Bloggs, without being thought strange and Bible-bashing as was the case 30 or so years ago?
I’ve previously been told by Christians that one of the main reasons that they avoid deep and meaningful conversations is that they are afraid of nor knowing the right answers! Put that alongside the experience that those who don’t have faith dislike talking to those who do because they always want to appear so absolutely certain that they’re right! I’m enjoying exploring, and amazed at the readiness of others to engage with a genuine search, if it is genuine, and not just a ploy.
Hi Eileen,
Is it best to communicate the gospel ‘without words’ to those who don’t want to know, those who think they know and the confused?
Hi Kerry,
Do you think certainty is overrated?!
